Anger over new Finance Minister
Zimbabweans have been left fuming following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s shock appointment of Frederick Shava as the new Foreign Minister. He replaces the late Sibusiso Moyo who died from Covid-19 last month. New Zimbabwe reports that Shava, who previously served as the country’s ambassador to the UN, was implicated in a vehicle purchasing scam in the 1980s. He was convicted and sentenced to nine months' imprisonment but was pardoned by former President Robert Mugabe after spending only one night in jail. ‘The bankruptcy and incompetence of Zanu PF on full display. The same incompetent, looting Ministers of the 1980s recycled to represent us on the global stage in 2021,’ said MDC spokesperson. Exiled former Minister Jonathan Moyo described Shava as Mnangagwa’s ‘clansman and long-time sidekick’.
