ANC retracts dismissal of Gaddafi billions man

South Africa's governing African National Congress has retracted the dismissal of its security chief Tito Maleka, who was allegedly fired because of his links to the Libyan Government and their search for billions of rands of assets allegedly stashed in South Africa, notes a report in The Sunday Independent.

It says the ANC did not put up a fight against Maleka at a Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration hearing last week and has agreed to pay him the large part of his salary until he goes on pension. Maleka, who has offered to work with the UN to recover the Libyan billions in South Africa, was placed on medical boarding until the age of 65 by the commission. It is reliably understood that part of the 'confidential' settlement is that Maleka's medical aid will remain in place. Maleka recently underwent heart surgery and was informed of his dismissal by the party while he was recovering, the report notes. Full report in The Sunday Independent (subscription needed)
