Amnesty welcomes regional court’s intervention

Amnesty International has welcomed a decision by the East African Court of Justice to summon the South Sudanese authorities to explain why the businessman Kerbino Agok Wol has not appeared in court since his arrest in April last year. BBC News reports that the Pan African Lawyers Union approached the Arusha-based regional court to protest against Kerbino's ill treatment. The court has summoned South Sudan's Advocate-General to appear later this month to also explain why Kerbino's assets were frozen, his bank accounts closed and why he has had no access to family, doctors or lawyers.
