Amateur sleuths lay formal Lotz case complaints
Two amateur investigators have submitted formal complaints to South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority and the International Association of Identification in Los Angeles against experts who testified in the Inge Lotz murder trial.
A Volksblad report notes brothers Thomas and Calvin Mollett explained their theories in the Carte Blanche programme on television. It says the gist of their argument is that the police did not tamper with evidence as claimed. Lotz was murdered in her Stellenbosch apartment in March 2005. Her former boyfriend Fred van der Vyver was acquitted of her murder in 2007 and has since won a civil suit against the police. The Mollets' credibility was immediately questioned by Dup de Bruyn SC, who acted on behalf of Van der Vyver. Full Volksblad report
