Prosecutor guilty of child porn possession

A Western Cape prosecutor has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on 157 charges of possession of child pornography and one charge of sexual assault, reports TimesLIVE. Dawid Lotz, a control prosecutor at the Atlantis Magistrate's Court at the time of his arrest on 31 December 2016, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in the Parow Regional Court on Monday. Lotz's guilty plea resulted in the court suspending three years of his sentence for five years. He was added to the register for sex offenders.

A Hillary man who downloaded approximately 19 000 images and 1 000 videos depicting child pornography was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment yesterday. A report on the IoL site notes that Durban Regional Court Magistrate Melanie de Jager said his name will be entered into the national register for sexual offences and national child protection register. Harmzen was arrested by Bellair police and the Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection, Sexual Offences and Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation unit in June last year, after receiving a tip-off.
