Legislation: New property, films, publications Acts gazetted

The 2019 Electronic Deeds Registration Systems Act, Property Practitioners Act and Films and Publications Amendment Act were gazetted last week but have yet to come into effect, notes Pam Saxby for Legalbrief Policy Watch. 

As Legalbrief Today has already reported, they respectively provide for the speedier registration of ‘large volumes of deeds’; improved property market functioning; and the regulation of online film and game distribution. In addition, the Property Practitioners Act is expected to facilitate transformation across the sector – while it is anticipated that the Films and Publications Amendment Act will go some way towards ‘protecting children from disturbing and harmful content’. These observations were made in a Presidency media statement announcing that the Bills concerned had been signed into law.
