Bafana Bafana midfielder Steven Pienaar is being sued for R10.8m by the mother of his child, who claims he broke his promise to marry her, says a Sunday Times report.

In papers filed in the South Gauteng High Court, 22-year-old Danielle Steeneveld claims Pienaar had 'fallen madly in love with her' after they met in June 2007 and promised her that she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. However, less than two years later he ended the relationship. In court papers, she describes how she gave up living in SA to pursue a future with the England-based star. Steeneveld, from Roodepoort, is claiming: R500 000 for patrimonial loss; R3.8m for injury to her good name, self-esteem and reputation after she became pregnant out of wedlock, allegedly at his insistence; and R6.5m as compensation for prospective loss.
