In a worrying trend for the legal profession, the number of practising lawyers in Singapore has dropped for three years in a row, according to Electric News.
Only 3 353 lawyers held practising certificates at the end of May. This is a bigger drop than earlier years. Reasons for lawyers leaving the profession are familiar. Law Society president, Philip Jeyaretnam, said at a conference earlier this year that many join either foreign law firms, or banks, corporations and multinational companies as in-house legal counsels.
