Publish date: 14 January 2019

After a cattle-rustling raid into Zambia by uniformed Angolan soldiers armed with assault rifles, a local man who was part of the group, has been convicted and sentenced to death. In her A Matter of Justice column on the Legalbrief site, Carmel Rickard takes a look at the unusual case. She says it is rare for such raids to result in a conviction. But she also questions why the Zambian Supreme Court took more than four years to hand down its decision on the appeal by the accused, particularly since the appeal involved a death penalty case.
