Acting Hawks head Benny Ntlemeza has ordered all Hawks officers to disregard orders given by Mpumalanga Hawks head Simon Mapyane, claims a Beeld report. This comes after Mapyane's unexpected return to work last week after his 60-day suspension period had lapsed. Unnamed sources are quoted as saying the police head office is preparing paperwork to suspend Mapyane again. The report says a general travelled from Pretoria to Mbombela on Thursday to tell Mapyane he was not allowed to return to work, but Mapyane allegedly told him he wanted the instruction in writing. Ntlemeza issued his instruction to disregard orders on Friday. Mapyane is accused of fraud by submitting false travel claims. His lawyer says the allegations are part of a 'bullying' strategy because his client had investigated influential people for alleged corruption relating to the construction of the Mbombela soccer stadium for the World Cup in 2010.
