CJ moves to upgrade court system

Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has urged district assemblies to improve the infrastructure of Ghana's courts to enhance justice delivery. A report on the Ghana Business News site notes that this followed a two-day tour of the Yendi Circuit Court and the Nalerigu District Court in the Northern Region late last week. Both courts require upgrading and furnishing. ‘It is my desire to focus most of the attention on the lower courts to make them to be able to seamlessly link up to the higher court process into the Appeal system all the way to the Supreme Court,’ she said. A report on the Myjoyonline site notes that the Chief Justice said a team has been put together to establish how non-custodial sentencing can be introduced in Ghana to ease the serious congestion in prisons.
