The researcher will serve as a climate change field researcher, using the pilot indicators developed by the Mandela Institute under the climate change project on how renewable energy solutions can address access to energy in rural areas and make communities economically active while improving standards of living. Specifically, the researcher will be asked to identify community based organisations to work with, build rapport, consult with communities to obtain consent, work on plan of activities with identified communities; conduct interviews, host focus group meetings with selected communities; conduct 3 public education and awareness meetings to promote empowerment in renewable energy programmes or activities in rural communities through capacity building and education of community
leaders.
The researcher will produce field reports and present at policy dialogues at the Mandela Institute within the six (6) month period. Researcher will be paid a daily rate as determined by the University of Witwatersrand rates for short-term occasional researchers. Applicants should have social science or humanities and law undergraduate degree (BA/BSc/BSocSci and LLB) background and a
postgraduate degree at Masters level. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered. PhD will be added advantage. Applicants must have relevant previous experience in field research. The short-term researcher contract will run from 1 June to 30 November 2015.
