About this Job Opportunity:

Key responsibilities:

·         Provide strategic leadership to the regional  office

·         Manage staff and operations, ensuring effective management of legal and support services in the regional office

·         Maintain and enhance the regional office as the legal service provider of choice for marginalised people in the region

·         Expand into new service areas as per the vision of the LRC

·         Ensure staff participation in, and reporting on different focus areas of LRC work

·         Develop a viable operational plan for the Region and monitor implementation

·         Ensure effective management and advancement of cases/client instructions

·         Prepare legal briefs, develop strategy, arguments, and testimony in preparation for presentation of case

·         Ensure implementation of budget and  management of costs and financial resources

·         Conduct research, interviews clients and witnesses, and handle other details in preparation of cases and for trial, where necessary

Key competencies:

·         Demonstrated interest in constitutional or public interest litigation;

·         Proactive attitude, with enthusiasm for the LRC’s mission and vision.

·         Strong leadership and project-management skills with track record

·         Advanced communication and interpersonal skills

·         Excellent writing and editing skills

·         Valid Driver’s licence and driving experience

Preferred qualifications and experience

·         An appropriate tertiary legal qualification with at least five years relevant management experience

·         Admitted as a practising Attorney or Advocate, preferably to the KwaZulu-Natal Law Society

·         Knowledge of SA’s socio-political environment and how it impacts on legal justice
