Suspects in Kenyan graft case granted bail

Kenya’s High Court has released all 43 suspects charged with the $100m graft scandal at the National Youth Service (NYS), but with stringent terms. The suspects were arrested in late May during investigations into money lost at the government-run training scheme. A report on the EWN site notes that they are facing charges including abuse of office and conspiracy to commit an economic crime but have denied any wrongdoing. ‘Even as I grant bail, I am alive to the seriousness of the charges the applicants and the co-accused are facing,’ said Justice Hedwig Ong’udi. Capital FM reports that Ong'udi ruled that there was no convincing reason from the state that the accused were likely to interfere with witnesses.
