190 Kruger rhinos died naturally in 2016

A total of 190 rhinos died from natural causes in 2016 at the Kruger National Park. This number includes deaths due to drought and increased fighting among rhino males as a result of scarce resources. According to an SABC News report, this was revealed by Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa in a written reply to a parliamentary question. She says more than 600 rhinos were killed illegally. The Minister added that other rhinos from the park were sold in the same year to two owners in the Northern Cape. Recently, the Constitutional Court ruled that it was legal to trade in rhinos, states the report.
