Journalist arrested over Grace Mugabe report

Publish date: 09 October 2017

Harare police have arrested a journalist for a report claiming Grace Mugabe donated second-hand underwear to supporters. Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said NewsDay journalist Kenneth Nyangani was detained for allegedly writing and publishing the story. A TimesLIVE report note that he is likely to face 'criminal defamation' charges when he appears in court. Zimbabwe's worsening economic crisis has forced many people to resort to buying second-hand clothes, many of which are imported from Mozambique after being shipped from Western nations. Zimbabwe outlawed the sale of second-hand clothes in 2015, but later lifted the ban.
