Zambian poet sues for right to compete

A Zambian teenager is suing the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the US because it will not let him compete in the national ‘Poetry Out Loud’ contest. A report on the News24 site notes that Allan Monga, a 17-year-old student, won Maine's contest but he said he's not being allowed to compete nationally because he hasn't yet been granted legal asylum. ‘I just want to go to Washington, DC, and compete like any other kid,’ he said at his attorneys' office. Monga and the school district are seeking an injunction to force the NEA to let him participate.
