Heavily armed Zimbabwean riot police last week besieged the property of a white commercial farmer outside Rusape and forcefully evicted him from his farm. A report on the News24 site notes that members of the ruling Zanu-PF party youth brigade and suspected members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation were also present during the eviction. Workers said police fired live ammunition and teargas to disperse the labourers and villagers who had gathered at the farm in solidarity with farm owner Robert Smart.
