Was Catholic bishop murdered?

Church officials claim there were ‘signs of violence’ on the body of a Roman Catholic bishop found in a river in central Cameroon in June. A report on the News24 site notes that the claims, outlined in a statement by the clergy in Cameroon, contradict the findings of a post-mortem report. ‘The bishops maintain the stance they took on 13 June 2017, according to which Monsignor Jean Marie Bala was murdered,’ it said. The body of the 58-year-old bishop of Bafia was fished out of the Sanaga River on 2 June, more than 48 hours after he was reported missing. His car had been found on a bridge over the river on 31 May. Inside were his identity papers and a note saying: ‘I am in the water’. The report notes that investigators on 4 July said there was ‘an absence of any signs of violence on the body’ following an autopsy carried out by two foreign medical examiners.
