Suspected smugglers nabbed in Harare

At least five suspects have been arrested before they allegedly tried to leave Zimbabwe with at least $4m in cash and 98kg of gold stashed in suitcases last week. The Chronicle reports that police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said the suspects were believed to be illegally dealing in gold and were arrested in the leafy Harare suburb of Borrowdale. The arrests come after President Emmerson Mnangagwa said his government has recovered at least $850m in illicit funds after a three-month grace Mnangagwa had announced the plan to recover an estimated $1.4bn stolen by individuals and businesses after taking office last November.
