Suspected drug dealers denied bail

A bail application by two men arrested and charged with dealing in drugs after the police discovered a record 412kg of cocaine in a shipping container at the Walvis Bay harbour in June last year has been dismissed. The Namibian reports that the narcotics had been shipped from Brazil. Windhoek High Court Judge Naomi Shivute said a previous magistrate’s ruling that Grant Noble and Azhak Dinath must be remanded in custody pending their trial stands. ‘It is safe to conclude that this court finds no reason to interfere with the magistrate's discretion as it was not wrongly exercised,’ Shivute said. The men claim they ordered a consignment of A4 printing paper and that they had no knowledge of any drugs being concealed in the shipping container. The matter was adjourned to 29 May.
