Suspected DRC militants face trial in Rwanda

When Rwandan police last month arrested eight people suspected of working with an armed group operating out of the DRC, they highlighted the existence of a little-known coalition of opposition parties labelled Platform Five (P5). A report on the allAfrica site notes that the suspects who were accused of organising and recruiting for the newly formed armed wing of P5 are expected to go on trial before the end of this month or early in November. The organisation that operates in exile was founded in June 2016 when the Rwanda National Congress, Union Democratic Forces-FDU Inkingi, Parti Sociale Imberakuri, PDP Imanzi and Amahoro PC formed a coalition. The Nyarugenge Intermediate Court rejected the accused’s bail application on grounds that they were a flight risk or could jeopardise investigations.
