Eleven people have pleaded guilty to possessing banned plastic bags in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa. BBC News reports that the street vendors who were selling food in plastic bags were arrested following a raid by environment officials. ‘We are sending a strong warning to the accused and the public that as long as you continue breaking the law, we will be here for you,’ said Magistrate Martin Rabera who released them all. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, the ban on plastic carrier bags which was introduced in August provides for step fines.
