Somalia signs key security pact

Somalia has signed a security pact with the international community aimed at building a national force to fight al-Shabaab militants. At a meeting in London, world powers agreed to support and train Somalia's army and police to take over duties currently performed by the AU. However, President Mohamed Abdullahi said unless a UN arms embargo was lifted, the conflict would go continue for another decade. BBC News reports that UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson expressed concern that weapons could end up in the wrong hands. The embargo has been in place since Somalia collapsed into civil war in the early 1990s.
