Service providers cleared to block unverified SIM cards

The High Court in Kampala has rejected a plea by a group seeking to block various telecommunication service providers from switching off unverified SIM cards following Friday's deadline. A report on the allAfrica site notes that Justice Stephen Musota’s ruling enabled the companies to switch off all the unverified SIM cards with immediate effect. Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda had extended an earlier deadline following a public outcry.
