Sanef condemns media clampdown in Lesotho

The South African National Editors' Forum (Sanef) has expressed concern over the condition and situation of journalists in Lesotho. Sanef said 'the deteriorating security situation' was a threat to journalists working in the country. It offered its support to the SABC's correspondent Nthakoana Ngatane who had to flee after receiving death threats. Sanef called on the government of Lesotho to ensure the safety of journalists 'so that they can practice their craft without fear or favour'. Prime Minister Tom Thabane's administration recently shut down a privately-owned radio station that was perceived to be anti-government.
