SAA bailout Bill process an eye-opener
It will take more than the SAA bail out Special Appropriations Bill to turn the national carrier around, according to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance. Approved last week by the House, the Bill was accompanied by a committee report pointing out, among other things, to the need for ‘exemptions and deviations’ from supply chain management regulations apparently undermining the ‘profitability and competitive edge’ of all state-owned enterprises. Other challenges confronting SAA include ‘oil price volatility’, ‘technical organisational and operational issues’, skills and capacity – and finding ‘a strategic equity partner’.
