Rhodes University is hosting what a Daily Dispatch report says is one of the world’s largest moot court competitions this week. The 15th European Law Students’ Association (Elsa) moot court competition on World Trade Organisation (WTO) law will ‘sit’ in Grahamstown, bringing together law students from all over the world to compete on a case that is based on WTO law. Each year, the competition culminates in a final oral round held at the WTO in Geneva, Switzerland. Elsa Africa’s Advocate Shuaib Rahim said that this year, teams from Ethiopia, Kenya, SA, Tanzania, Liberia, Lesotho and Uganda would compete in the three days of pleadings. The best teams from the African regional round will advance to the final in Geneva from 6-11 June.
