Probe into German stash of African skulls

A German cultural institution has started investigating a collection of about 1 000 human skulls from the country's former African colonies that ended up at a Berlin hospital. The skulls from colonies in what is today Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and Mozambique, were found in poor condition at Berlin's Charite Hospital and transferred to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in 2011. A report on the US News site notes that they are part of a larger collection that was brought to Germany in the 19th and early 20th century by a German anthropologist. The report notes that German researchers are now joining forces with an international network of scientists to review documents and find out more about the origins of the skulls.
