African ambassadors have expressed support and confidence in South Africa’s leadership role, as Pretoria takes up a seat at the UN Security Council for the term 2019-2020 as a non-permanent member. ‘South Africa is contributing in a very significant way towards the maintenance of peace and stability on the continent,’ said Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa, David Hamadziripi. A report on The Citizen site notes that he said Pretoria has spent ‘a lot of efforts and resources’ in trying to resolve issues of conflict in numerous other parts of Africa. South Africa will serve in the UN Security Council for the term 2019-2020. President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday hosted hundreds of foreign envoys, ahead of the annual 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, scheduled from 18 September to 5 October.
