Net closes on Nigeria’s fugitive former Minister

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has confirmed that it plans to extradite former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke from the UK. The Premium Times reports that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) acting chair Ibrahim Magu said investigations into her continue ‘but nobody will go unpunished’. ‘We have reached a level where nobody can stop us in the fight against corruption. We must realise that we are all stakeholders, and this fight is for the future generation,’ he added. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, a Nigerian court last month ordered the permanent forfeiture of a $37.5m mansion belonging to Alison-Madueke who is facing corruption charges. It was the second major victory for the EFCC against the former Minister. In February, a court ordered the seizure of more than $110m from her bank accounts. In addition, President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to approach the International Criminal Court to seek an arrest warrant for Alison-Madueke.
