Windhoek woman jailed for killing lover

A Namibian woman who admitted that she murdered her former boyfriend has received a 17-year prison term. In addition, Anthea Arnold (33) was declared unfit to possess a firearm for six years after her eventual release from prison. Windhoek Regional Court Magistrate Ileni Velikoshi said it was aggravating that the 2011 killing was premeditated, and that her victim, Michael Breder (56), was executed at his home, where he was supposed to be safe. The Namibian reports that she had denied guilt during two previous trials but after Velikoshi convicted her of murder in October last year, she confessed she was indeed guilty of the crime. She claimed to have acted in self-defence when she shot Breder because she blamed him for infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
