Mugabe off the hook – for now

Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe did not appear before a parliamentary committee last week to answer questions on multibillion-dollar corruption in the diamond industry after the hearing was postponed. He had been summoned to appear before a Mines and Energy Committee on Wednesday. However, MP Temba Mliswa who is leading the inquiry, said the hearing had been postponed to a date yet to be decided. A report on the News24 site notes that the lawmakers plan to question Mugabe over his 2016 claim that the country had lost $15bn due to corruption and foreign exploitation in the diamond sector.
