The entire police force unit in the popular Mozambican beachfront tourist resort of Ponta do Ouro has been suspended after local residents accused them of extorting bribes from South African tourists. A report on the News24 site notes that several local business owners have welcomed the news. Their suspension follows the widespread dissemination of an amateur cell phone video on social media showing an angry crowd blocking a police vehicle after a tourist had been arrested. Police spokesperson Claudio Langa said the Command has decided to remove the entire police unit stationed 'until the truth of the complaints raised by the public is established'.
