More post-poll protesters arrested

Police in Cameroon have arrested 19 supporters of opposition leader Maurice Kamto, who is disputing the results of the October presidential elections. Witnesses say the protesters were detained in the town of Bafoussam in the country's west. A report on the News24 site notes that Kamto, who according to official results came second with 14% of the vote behind incumbent Paul Biya, has called for an independent vote recount. He is one of seven candidates seeking to unseat Biya who has ruled Cameroon for 36 years and insists the process was marred by widespread fraud.
