Minister denies plotting to topple Mugabe

Embattled Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has denied allegations that he is plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe. This follows a Sunday Mail report which quotes an unidentified ‘senior government official’ as saying Kasukuwere is collaborating with EFF leader Julius Malema to topple Mugabe. The two politicians allegedly have the backing of British agent Lord Robin Renwick, a past UK Ambassador to South Africa. Renwick and Malema reportedly met in London in 2015. In an interview with News24, Kasukuwere said colleagues those pushing for his expulsion from the ruling Zanu-PF were also seeking Mugabe’s ousting. He said it was ‘madness’ for anyone to think that he was pushing for an extraordinary congress before next year’s presidential polls in order for him to replace Mugabe. ‘That is madness, we have already endorsed President Mugabe as our presidential candidate for 2018 and I am 100% behind his candidature. Our party is guided by rules and principles and one cannot just wake up and be president of the party,’ he added.
