Court extends voter registration deadline

A Nairobi court has extended the mass voter listing deadline by two days following a petition. Justice Chacha Mwita extended the 14 February deadline after activist Okiya Omtata filed the petition arguing that the law only requires the exercise to end two months before general election. The Star reports that Kenya's highly-anticipated national polls will be held on 8 August. IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati had insisted that there would be no extension. Mwita instructed Omtata to immediately serve the commission with the ruling.
