Jurors urged to convict Benghazi ‘mastermind’

Prosecutors are urging jurors to convict a man they say masterminded the 2012 attacks on US compounds in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Assistant US Attorney Michael DiLorenzo has described Ahmed Abu Khattala as a terrorist bent on killing as many Americans as he could. Khattala is charged with crimes including murder of an internationally protected person, providing material support to terrorists and destroying US property. A report on The Citizen site notes that US Government lawyers said he was guilty of conspiracy and murder. ''‘I will kill all the Americans, each and everyone of them…’': This is what the defendant Abu Khattala said and this is exactly what he did,’ DiLorenzo told a jury in the trial in Washington federal court. ‘On September 11, he took action,’ DiLorenzo said, highlighting that the attack in the eastern Libyan city took place on the anniversary of the 9/11 al-Qaeda attacks.
