Imam among suspects arrested for double murder

A preliminary investigation by Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) indicates that the list of terror suspects arrested in connection with the beheadings of two European tourists include an imam and a former soldier. Legalbrief reports that Danish student Louisa Jespersen and Norwegian Maren Ueland were found dead at an isolated hiking spot south of Marrakesh on 17 December. A report on the Morocco World News site notes that BCIJ spokesperson Jeune Afrique said the suspects were also targeting a series of public figures. The bureau has arrested at least 22 suspects in connection to the murders. The suspects will be tried in accordance with the 2003 Anti-Terror Law for having ties with an extremist group Isis that planned to commit acts of terror in Morocco.
