Germany deports alleged extremist to Nigeria

Germany has deported an alleged Islamic extremist to Nigeria. The 22-year-old man, who is a German national but has lived in Nigeria, was one of two suspects detained in Goettingen in February during investigations into a planned terror attack. The Premium Times reports that his partner is a 27-year-old Algerian. Following their arrest, the German Interior Ministry ordered their expulsion after classifying them as a threat to national security despite the fact that they were not convicted of committing a crime. 'We are sending a clear warning to all fanatics nationwide that we will not give them a centimetre of space to carry out their despicable plans,' said Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Boris Pistorius. The German authorities are seeking an assurance from Algeria that the second suspect will not be tortured or subjected to any inhumane treatment if he is extradited.
