Gambian court seeks extradition for murder suspects

A Gambian court has issued an arrest warrant for two former army officers suspected in the 2004 shooting to death of a journalist. Kawsu Camara and Sanna Manjang are wanted for allegedly conspiring to kill Deyda Hydara, the co-founder of The Point newspaper. He was shot dead on 16 December 2004 near the capital. Legalbrief reports that the suspects have reportedly left the country and their whereabouts are unknown The Banjul Magistrate's Court ordered that they should be arrested and extradited to face justice in The Gambia. The case has now been transferred to the High Court which has jurisdiction to try the matter. Gambia's Information Ministry has warned there will be no amnesty for crimes committed under former President Yahya Jammeh's two-decade rule.
