Mozambique's former Justice Minister Abdul de Almeida has been sentenced to two years in jail for the misappropriation of public funds. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Almeida was charged with misusing $28 000 to pay the expenses of three associates who accompanied him to attend the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last year. BBC News reports that Justice Joao Guilherme said the sentence was meant to deter the improper use of public funds, which is becoming endemic in Mozambique.
