Former Minister linked to fugitive’s escape

Nigeria’s former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode will be prosecuted over his alleged involvement in assisting Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, leave the country. The Guardian reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the State Security Service and the police to investigate and prosecute several suspects, including lawmaker Eyinnaya Abaribe. This after the applicant, Isaiah Ayugu, told Justice John Tsoho the incident had damaged Nigeria’s reputation worldwide. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, Kanu has been spotted in Israel more than a year after soldiers stormed his home. In 2015, he was charged with ‘criminal conspiracy, intimidation and membership of an illegal organisation’. He was released on bail last year after spending more than 19 months without trial on treason charges.
