Former Minister under house arrest

Burkina Faso's former Foreign Minister Djibril Bassolé has been placed under house arrest following his release from military custody. BBC News reports that he is being investigated for his alleged role in the failed 2015 coup. He will be held in a presidential villa under military surveillance. Legalbrief reports that the 1 300 members of the presidential guard, set up by President Blaise Compaore, turned against the state because they thought they would be disbanded. Compaore, who ruled for 27 years, was ousted following violent street protests.
