Dirk Prinsloo may soon be back in SA

Former Advocate Dirk Prinsloo is about to return to South Africa as authorities try to decide whether he should be deported or extradited. A Beeld report says Prinsloo, who is serving time in Belarus for robbing a bank, is eligible for parole from Sunday. He fled to Belarus while his trial on sex crimes involving children was pending in the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria). Department of International Relations and Co-Operation spokesperson Nelson Kgwete confirmed that discussions with authorities in Minsk were under way. Should he be deported for entering Belarus illegally there is the possibility of Prinsloo fleeing on his way back to South Africa, Kgwete said. As there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest dating from 2006, extradition seems to be the preferred option. His co-accused at the time, Cézanne Visser, has already served her sentence.
