Deputy Minister kidnapped

Gunmen have kidnapped the deputy Foreign Minister of Libya's internationally recognised government, the Interior Minister said yesterday (Sunday).

The New York Times reports that the kidnapping of the deputy Minister, Hassan al-Saghir, happened on Saturday in the eastern city of Bayda. Kidnappings have become frequent in Libya, where two governments and parliaments, allied to different armed factions, are vying for legitimacy and control four years after Muammar Gaddafi was ousted as the country's leader, the report notes. It says as sporadic factional fighting continued in several parts of the country, six people were killed when rockets hit houses in the city of Benghazi yesterday. Full report in The New York Times
