Businessman in the dock on torture charges

James Ojuja, a businessman and official in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs, is expected to appear in court tomorrow (Tuesday) to answer charges of torturing two soldiers. New Vision reports that the hotel owner allegedly assaulted Paul Ocen and Lameck Owong of the 63 Infantry Battalion and ‘inflicted serious injuries’, including burns. The duo were among several revellers who had gone to his hotel in Dokolo to celebrate May Day when the incident occurred. The victims claim Ojuja has attempted to settle the matter out of court but they have rejected his offer. He faces life imprisonment if convicted of aggravated assault.
