Bulawayo bombing suspects released

Two suspects who appeared before a Bulawayo Magistrate's Court facing terrorism charges have been released as the state has failed to prove its case. A TimesLIVE report notes that Douglas Musekiwa and John Zulu were accused of being the masterminds behind 'insurgency‚ banditry‚ sabotage or terrorism' that claimed two lives and injured 50 last month. Among those injured in the 24 June attack at a Zanu-PF rally at a stadium in Bulawayo were one of Zimbabwe's Vice-Presidents‚ Kembo Mohadi‚ and Environment Minister Oppah Muchunguri. The attack is reported to have been directed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa who left the podium a few seconds before the explosion. The suspects appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Gladmore Mushowe over the weekend as the 48-hour detention period ran out. The report notes that Mushowe gave the state another 24 hours which expired on Monday last week when they were released.
