Airline resumes Zimbabwe flights after legal spat

Air Namibia has confirmed the resumption of flights to Zimbabwe after briefly suspending services over an attempted seizure of one of its aircraft. As previously reported in Legalbrief Today, the airline cancelled flights to Zimbabwe recently after one of its aircraft was impounded by the authorities in Harare. This followed claims that a Zimbabwean man was attempting to sue Air Namibia for $1m after he and his family were allegedly barred from travelling to Turkey. New Zimbabwe reports that the Zimbabwean High Court has since granted the lifting of the attachment of the aircraft. Judge Tawanda Chitapi had initially authorised the sheriff of the court to attach Air Namibia’s property, including planes, pending the finalisation of the case in which Zimbabwean family man Chenjerai Mawumba sued the airline for ‘pain, suffering and trauma’. New Era reports that Air Namibia confirmed the resumption of flights, saying the operations remain unchanged. Windhoek to Harare operates on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday while the Windhoek to Victoria Falls route operates daily (except for Tuesday).
