Abuja summons SA envoy over 'extra-judicial killing'

Nigeria has summoned SA's envoy over allegations that South African police killed a Nigerian national who was in custody. The Nigerian Foreign Ministry said Kingsley Ikeri, a 27-year-old living in KwaZulu-Natal had been ‘suffocated to death by the South African police on the allegation that he was involved in drug trafficking’. A report on the News24 site notes that the Acting High Commissioner Kenneth Pedro was summoned to address ‘the extra-judicial killing’. Ikeri, who lived in Vryheid, died on 30 August. In February, Nigeria summoned SA's ambassador over a fresh wave of immigrant violence that left dozens of shops owned by Nigerians vandalised in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
